The Matt Pistol Project was formed around the year 2000 when two friends Hannu and Peter were enjoying playing guitar and writing songs. Devoted to their cause these two friends kept on playing and formed a solid team of songwriter and lead guitarist.

Hannu's strong vision of storytelling and songwriting and Peter's bluesy and sentimental playing style were soon reinforced by bass player Jouni, keyboard player Markku (who is also Hannu's brother) and drummer Aleksi.

The band signed a management deal with Petri Ekman and Koetinkivi Oy in the beginning of the year 2006 and soon after that the band started working with producer Michael Blair (who has recorded and performed with Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello and produced Ryan Adams, Soul Asylum just to mention few). The Matt Pistol Project recorded four songs in April 2006 with Mr. Blair. On April 2007 the band signed a publishing deal with the Stockholm based MARSONGS Publishing. On August 2007 the band was given the opportunity to be the supporting act for legendary Bonnie Tyler in her show in Finland.

Increased demand and fanbase, driven by powerful music and a steadfast USA - based street team, has lead to worldwide interest of internet radio adds, airplay and featured artist presentations.


These songs have a strong meaning to the band and it's singer and songwriter Hannu and they're delivering meaningful images thru stories from different sides of life - its up and downs and heavens and hells.


The Matt Pistol Project's singer and songwriter Hannu was born in Lutheran priest's family in 1979. Spiritual music was always present at home and also his big brother Markku's boring classical piano training. Well, nowadays Markku is a bandmember in The Matt Pistol Project. Only non-spiritual record that was found in Hannu's parents' record collection was a Johnny Cash collection, which Hannu frequently listened. In the age of five Hannu's mind was blown by Bruce Springsteen's records that  brother Markku brought home. 

Apart from writing music all the time Hannu is a thesis away from his master's degree in Theology. Peter Mård is master of arts from Theatre academy - to mention other bandmembers' education. But music is their calling.
